Your Leading Sustainable Logistics Partner in 2024

The Bigger Picture

Transport Logistics form the backbone of the UK economy, facilitating the smooth movement of goods and enabling trade. Embracing sustainability practices within this crucial industry becomes imperative to minimize carbon emissions, enhance air quality, and protect our natural resources. HGVs make up 6% of all vehicle miles in the UK however their emissions account for nearly 20% of that produced by all transport on the road emitting some 21.4 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO2e) last year.

Corporate sustainability is a priority at JJX Logistics. We must meet the needs of the present, for our customers and employees, without compromising future generations in meeting their needs. We embrace the three pillars of sustainability - economic, environmental and social. For us they are interlinked and co-dependent which is why we endeavour to constantly improve our environmental performance by setting targets, whilst tracking and monitoring our performance in meeting these targets.

The 2030 Target

In February 2023, the European Commission proposed ambitious new CO2 emissions targets for new heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) from 2030 onwards. These strengthened emissions standards would ensure that this segment of the road transport sector contributes to the shift to zero-emissions mobility and the EU's climate and zero pollution objectives.

The Commission proposes phasing in stronger CO2 emissions standards for almost all new HDVs with certified CO2 emissions, compared to 2019 levels, specifically:

45% emissions reduction from 2030

65% emissions reduction from 2035

90% emissions reduction from 2040

In line with the European Green Deal, this proposal will also have a positive impact on the energy transition, by lowering demand for imported fossil fuels and enhancing energy savings and efficiencies in the EU's transport sector. It will provide benefits for European transport operators and users by reducing fuel costs and total cost of ownership, and ensure a wider deployment of more energy-efficient vehicles.

Frans Timmermans, the Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal

To reach our climate and zero pollution goals all parts of the transport sector have to actively contribute. In 2050, nearly all of the vehicles on our roads have to be zero-emission. Our Climate Law requires it, our cities demand it, and our manufacturers are gearing up for it.

We're making sure that new trucks are becoming less polluting. Fighting the climate crisis, enhancing the quality of life of our citizens, and boosting Europe’s industrial competitiveness go hand-in-hand.

Frans Timmermans, Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal

Our Pledge

When it comes to transportation at JJX Logistics, we focus on three elements. The valuable goods in the back, the experienced driver in the front and the environment around the vehicle as it travels. Each are just as important as one another. We understand the growing concerns with the environmental impact that road haulage has in the UK and are in regular dialogue with clean energy experts as we look to develop our own sustainable future.

Our Green Mission Statement:

To use energy from renewable sources for our premises and to exponentially invest in electric vehicles on target to meet the European Green Deal. We will also play our part in educating and advancing the future of our industry supporting CILT’s Generation Logistics.

Electric Vehicle Revolution

We're thrilled to announce the addition of our first ever all-electric vehicle, designed to revolutionise last-mile deliveries in city centre. Embracing the latest technology, this eco-friendly Mercedes eSprinter marks a significant step towards reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and pledge towards building a greener future by #DeliveringGreener.

As further breakthroughs are reached with more sustainable transportation are backed up by a stronger infrastructure across the UK, our vision is to extend electric mobility to middle and longer distance delivery converting our already fuel efficient fleet with zero emission replacements over the coming years. This will allow us to continue providing industry leading time-critical logistics solutions across Europe while maintaining our core commitment to sustainability.

Join us on our green journey as we pave the way for a cleaner, greener future!

Fleet Modernisation

The past 12 months have seen major investment modernising our vehicles to the latest industry leading fuel-efficient releases with more than half of our fleet now less than a year old. This includes our brand-new range of DAF XG+ models and IVECO 530 S-WAY’s, all equipped with top-of-the-line Euro 7 ready engines that not only comply with stringent emission standards but also ensure optimized fuel consumption, further reducing our environmental impact.

The latest update from our Samsara fleet management system has seen the introduction of a Green Band rating. With all of our vehicles fitted with an integrated monitoring system, we receive minute-by-minute data on engine idling, driving efficiency and fuel usage. The latest Green Band range now shows the optimum rev range for each type of small, medium and large vehicles allowing the drivers awareness into more economic and fuel efficient driving.

Q3 2023 Sustainability Report

Following our new corporate pledge in the summer of 2023, our compiled Q3 2023 Sustainability Report has shown strong improvements in working towards our longer term environmental goals. The instant success shows the positive impact #DeliveringGreener has had on our existing operations with new measures constantly being looked at to further improve them. A major factor in gathering the data is fleet management company Samsara’s state-of-the-art vehicle tracking software. The key results from the report showed...

CO2 emissions reduction of 51,912 kg (16.9%)

Green Band driving has increased 3.2%

Idling waste has reduced by 106.4 gallons (25.9%)

Average fleet MPG has increased 7.4%

What are the European Emission Standards?

Although emissions regulations date back to 1970, the first EU-wide standard known as Euro 1 wasn’t introduced until 1992 which limited the level of exhaust emissions a petrol or diesel vehicle can produce, thereby reducing its impact on the environment. It saw catalytic converters became compulsory on new cars, effectively standardising fuel injection.

The latest Euro 7 standard will be introduced on the 1st July 2025, bringing in the strictest standard yet with a particular focus on the emissions from brakes and tyres, restricting the amount of brake dust and tyre particulates released by all new cars. Electric cars and plug-in hybrids will also need to have their batteries assessed for longevity and tested to see how they change over time with regard to overall capacity as they do more miles on the road.

Utilising Logistics

As part of our dedication to sustainability, we ensure that all our vehicles are Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) compliant. With 90% of our fleet less than three years old and 50% under a single year, we actively reduce emissions and energy consumption, demonstrating our commitment to staying at the forefront of eco-friendly logistics practices.

Furthermore, our expert team of route planners use industry leaders analytical route mapping software designed to plan efficient route operations and reduce unnecessary miles travelled leading to fuel savings and lower emissions. Across the board we are moving towards creating a whole eco-system for our logistics supply chain.

We firmly believe that collaboration with our customers and other stakeholders is the cornerstone of achieving our corporate sustainability targets. Together, we can create a powerful synergy that drives positive change and fosters a more sustainable future.
