As part of National Lorry Week, run by the RHA, our Logistics Accounts Manager answers a few questions about why he loves the industry.
What do you love about working in transport and logistics?
Every day is different. I enjoy the challenge of coordinating the transition of client’s freight from A to B in the most cost-effective and efficient way possible.
What does the transport and logistics industry mean to you?
Effectively, it’s a lifestyle. I’m on hand at all times of the day, offering advice and solutions to clients. Working for a family run business means that not only do I represent a company brand, but I represent the values of our MD who started the company over 21 years ago.
Why did you decide to work at JJX?
I wanted to progress my career in logistics from being on the road to learning the planning and compliance aspects of the trade. I finally settled in the commercial department where I thrive on saving my clients money and improving their service levels throughout the total supply chain.
What is something that people wouldn’t expect you to do in your role?
From time to time I go out and manage specialist exhibition, heavy lifting, Moffett and construction projects. I make sure that the plan runs smoothly whilst maintaining the highest level of onsite customer service levels and comply with health and safety regulations.
Why should people get involved in the transport industry?
It’s stereotyped as an unglamorous and pressurised. Like many other trades, it can be at times, but it’s not all doom and gloom I promise!
Everything in this world needs to be transported at some point in its lifecycle. Without logistics, the world would come to a stop!
There is currently a high demand for HGV drivers and the need to educate young people about the supply chain. It’s critical that we promote recruitment and training within the sector. Through the help of the RHA and National Lorry Week, we can promote the industry and emphasise how important it is to keep it alive.
