Highly Anticipated Airbus A350-1000 ULR Completes Maiden Voyage

The aviation industry reached another significant milestone this week as the highly anticipated Airbus A350-1000ULR (Ultra Long Range) successfully completed its maiden test flight on Tuesday 2nd June 2026. Set to redefine the limits of long-haul commercial travel, the aircraft departed Toulouse-Blagnac Airport at 12:30 UTC under flight ID AIB01LR before returning safely after a flight duration of 3 hours and 43 minutes.

 

Registered as F-WULR and bearing manufacturer serial number MSN 707, the aircraft marks the first in a new generation of ultra-long-range jets capable of connecting distant global city pairs like never before. Once certified and delivered, the A350-1000ULR is expected to enter service with airlines operating routes of up to 10,000 nautical miles, including the highly publicised Sydney to London route, one of the longest nonstop passenger flights in the world with durations approaching 22 hours.

A Major Step in an Ambitious Programme

The successful maiden voyage represents the beginning of an intensive flight test campaign in which the aircraft will now undergo approximately 80 hours of flight testing over the coming two months. These tests are designed to validate the aircraft’s performance, systems reliability, fuel efficiency, and operational readiness for ultra-long-haul routes.

 

Meanwhile the programme continues to advance at pace. A second A350-1000ULR is currently in the advanced stage of final assembly and will soon move into engine installation. This aircraft is earmarked to become the first of the 12 on order to be delivered to its launch customer Qantas Airways, with delivery expected in April 2027 complete with airline livery as the programme edges closer to commercial service entry.
