A Timeline of Events
Celebrating our 26th year of operations in 2023, there has certainly been a lot of change for this family run logistics company but one thing has already remained constant and that is the promise we make to our customers. Having relocated several times across the region over the years, we are now enjoying our home on the Pensnett Trading Estate in Kingswinford alongside several of our close partners.
With all bar two of our employees living in the Black Country, we have been supplying logistics solutions to our neighbouring companies since day one and are incredibly proud of our roots and positive impact in the community regularly supporting local events and charities like BCMH and the Black Country FoodBank. Below is a timeline of our history so far and what the exciting future holds for JJX Logistics...
1997
Our Managing Director, John Joseph Donovan, founded JJX Small Haul with just a single van and a plan, delivering time critical consignments all over the UK. John quickly made a name for himself for his commitment to customers and exceptional service, always believing that the customer was King.
2007
John acquired Express Light Haulage from his brother Michael and changed the company name to JJX Logistics, introducing a scheduled network within Europe to complete the existing UK operations.
2014
Following major investment, we moved into our new home on Cooper Street in Wolverhampton, successfully converting the 12,000 sq ft site from B1 Office use to a B8 Storage and Distribution facility allowing JJX to provide complete supply chain fulfilment solutions to our existing 24/7 UK and European delivery service.
2014
We became corporate members of the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (CILT), the leading organisation for professionals involved in the movement of goods and people, and their associated supply chains in the UK.
Established in 1919 and gaining it’s Royal Charter in 1926 by King George V, the same year as the British Broadcasting Corporation, CILT has grown to over 33,000 members worldwide and is heavy involved in some of the most significant topics of discussions with the UK Government that have come to shape the industry as we know it today. Following on with the royal connection, Princess Anne is a patron of the institute.
2015
We gained nationwide recognition when our ‘JJX Aeroplane’ van design won Livery of the Year at the annual Motor Transport Awards with over 1,600 guests in attendance at what is the ‘Oscars’ of the transport industry. Beating out the likes of global operators Argos, United Biscuits and British Oxygen to the accolade, the project saw vehicles being wrapped with images fundamental to our larger clients and judges were truly bowled over by the aerospace design that featured five of John’s grandchildren.
"It turned out to be quite a production with the costumes for the children, buying the model plane and so on but it has been well worth it. Used for our international deliveries to northern Germany, it has already done around 100,000 miles in less than 12 months.” - John
2015
Expanded our operations moving into a second 21,000 sq ft premise on the Pensnett Trading Estate just before Christmas
2017
We first gained our AEO status, a voluntary accreditation granted by HMRC for companies who display incredibly high levels of compliance when it comes to operations, security and customs procedures.
2019
We picked up our second national award in four years, this time with Alex Hudson being named the LGV Driver of the Year by Talent in Logistics. During the TIL Live Competition held on the 27th June, Alex faced a number of challenges where he demonstrated both a high level of skill and safety which underpinned his knowledge and exceptional practical operation. Starting out at JJX in November 2011 as a very shy office apprentice, Alex’s enthusiasm saw him work his way up to earning his Class 1 and this was a prime example of our supportive culture in developing the next generation of industry professionals.
“When my name was called out I thought no this can’t be right, it’s a mistake, and I looked up at the big screen and saw my name in it. It was such a great feeling to have won against such an experienced group.” - Alex
2019
Having outgrown our premises after just a few years, we up sticks and moved just down the road to Unit 66 on the Pensnett Trading Estate. The 175,000 sq ft site is now home to over 70 employees, a fleet of 36 vehicles and well over 10,000 pallets with space also rented out to the likes of Field Solutions Group and Capital.
2020
For his incredible fundraising efforts during the COVID pandemic, John was named the Business Hero of the Year in the annual Black Country Chamber business awards.
During the course of the year, JJX raised over £25,000 for Breast Cancer Now’s Legacy4Lucy by auctioning off our Wolves branded DAF truck which included a donation from Jonathan Hayward, son of Wolverhampton Wanderers legend Sir Jack Hayward. John also raised over £5,000 for Black Country Mental Health for “braving the shave” as well as the annual charity football match, Christmas toys appeal for Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Easter Egg chocolate collection to name just a few.
2021
After a lot of hard work and late nights implementing watertight operational compliance and state of the art inventory management systems, we were granted Customs Bonded approval in our warehouse.
Similar to moving into our first warehouse premises in 2014, this was a landmark moment for our well-established European delivery network allowing us to offer a very beneficial supply chain fulfilment and storage solution for our international customers.
2022
With demand for European logistics growing post Brexit, the tail end of 2022 saw us launch our first daily delivery route from the UK down to the Aerospace hubs in the South of France in Toulouse and Bordeaux. This was soon followed by a daily schedule over to Germany to both Bremen and Hamburg. You can find out more information on our daily delivery routes here.
2023
Having been proud members of the Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) for a decade, this year saw JJX Logistics become one of only nine companies in the UK to hold a TAPA Trucking Security Requirements (TSR) Level 1 certificate.
The TSR framework provides the only common global standard for goods in transit security and to gain Level 1, you must demonstrate a real commitment to adopting the best possible security protocols for your transportation operations.
2023
After over 25 years and well over a hundred vehicles coming and going through our doors, we were delighted to introduce our first fully electric delivery van to the JJX fleet in August 2023 as part of our Corporate Sustainability pledge.
Focusing on final-mile deliveries around the West Midlands for some of the biggest companies in the region, we aim to expand our zero emission vans to cover mid-range deliveries over the next two years as the infrastructure improves to support the electrification movement.
